Membership Letter - Annual Meeting Notice

Dear Friend of the Calumet Players,

As the Calumet Players end our 29th year and plan for our 30th anniversary year, we want to thank all of you who have made these years possible.  With your loyal support and encouragement, we have been able to provide live theater to the people of the Keweenaw.  This year we have produced two very successful productions: the USO show which took place in April at the American Legion in Lake Linden and in July at the Calumet Theatre, and "Annie Get Your Gun" in September at the Calumet Theater.

This year, the Players were fortunate to have received two grants: first - one from the Michigan Council for the Arts through their mini grant program for $4,000 to help with the expense of the fall musical, and second - a $15,000 grant from Calumet Township Facade Grant Program.

The grant from Calumet Township was matched dollar-for-dollar by the Players and with your help we were able to do that.  If you have gone by the Players building lately, you should have noticed the new windows on the second floor facing 6th St. along with the missing piece of cornice having been replaced, also a new door on the back of the building along with some painting. We now have lights in our prop and costume room, something we have needed for a long time.

Plans for the coming year include celebrating our 30th anniversary and, of course, producing both a spring show and fall musical.  We plan to continue replacing windows and other much needed work on the players building.  We will be looking for additional grants to help pay for these repairs. Because all of these grants require a match, we will be looking for ways to raise the needed funds.

With your continued support we can continue to keep community theater alive in the Keweenaw.  You can help by becoming or renewing your membership in the climate players.  Membership runs from the Annual Meeting in October to the following Annual Meeting.  The players is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt corporation and your donation may qualify as a tax deduction.  All members will graciously be acknowledged in Players programs.

Membership entitles you to vote for members of the Board of Directors at the Annual Meeting.  This year's Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday, October 25th, 2008, at the Ramada Inn Waterfront Restaurant in Hancock.  The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m. followed by a buffet dinner at 6:00 p.m. and the meeting at 7:00 p.m..  The cost of the dinner is $15.95 plus tip.  We request that you RSVP by Thursday October 23rd to Debbie at 337-4645 or e-mail Dennis at dennisrr@chartermi.net or players@cplayers.org in order to provide headcount for the restaurant.  We hope to see you on the 25th.

Sincerely,
Dennis Racine
